Born in Kingsville, Texas, Donald Hollas was raised in Rosenberg, Texas and prepped at Lamar Consolidated High School. He quarterbacked the Rice University football team from 1987-90 and received the George R. Martin Award, which signifies the team’s most valuable player, in 1989.
After graduating from Rice in 1991, Hollas played professionally for nine years. He quarterbacked in the National Football League for four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and two seasons with the Oakland Raiders as well as spending time with the Detroit Lions, Houston Oilers and the Washington Redskins organizations. During his professional career, he also had a stint as quarterback with the Texas Terror organization of the Arena Football League.
In 2000, his professional football career came to a conclusion and Hollas entered the coaching ranks. He landed his first coaching job with the Spring Football League where he served as Offensive Coordinator/QBs Coach for the Houston Marshals. He later joined the high school ranks as an Assistant Coach at Second Baptist School and Offensive Coordinator/QBs at Lamar Consolidated High School before serving one year as Offensive Coordinator/QBs coach at Prairie View A&M University. Afterwards, Hollas coached at South Houston High School as WRs coach and Fort Bend Baptist Academy as Offensive Coordinator/QBs coach.
In 2007, he was named the Head Coach of the Katy Ruff Riders – a Houston area indoor professional franchise. In the spring of 2008, Hollas served as Community Relations Director, Head Strength and Conditioning and Running Backs coach for the now defunct All American Football League’s Team Texas.
He was Head Football Coach/Associate Athletic Director/ Dean of Physical Education at St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas from May 2008 through January 2012. Hollas directed his team to the state semi finals in 2012. During that same time span, Hollas served on the Board of Directors of The Texas Private School Coaches Association. Coach Hollas' statement about the TPSCA: "I was excited to be a part of an organization dedicated to improving private school coaching. This organization is focused on bringing people together to form a true professional coaching community."
